JULIAN CUP, COMPETITION. BRIGHTER- G AMES WITNESSED. The Julian Cup soccer competition was advanced a further stage on Saturday when matches were played at New Plymouth and -Stratford. -For the most part the standard of play showed a decided improvement, the teams themselves being strengthened and giving evidence of better combination. The results wei;e as follow: Albion (2 v. Caledonians 1. -Celtic 1 v. Mo turoa 0. -Stratford 6 v. Pirates 2. Hawera, a bye. ’The Celtic (Hawera) club journeyed to New Plymouth and at Fitzroy played Mo turoa. Thought the weather conditions were not favourable the mateh was fast from first to last and some very fine play was witnessed. It was in the second spell that a Celtic player put the ball into the net during a melee in front of the posts. Mr G. Lawrence was the referee. PLAY IN OTHER CENTRES. Association football results in centres outside Taranaki are reported by the Press Association as follows: Wellington.—Watersiders' 2 v. Marist 2, Petone 7 beat Seatoun 3, Diamonds 9 beat W.Y.M.I. 1, Hospital 2 beat Thistle 1. Christchurch.—Matches played in cold, windy weather. Thistle 2 v. Nomads, 2, Marist 1 heat Western 0, Brighton 7 beat St. Albans O, Sumner 2 beat Kaiapoi 1. Auckland.—Thistle 2 heat North Shore 1, Ponsonby 2 v. Celtic 2, Tramurewa 5 beat Oueliunga 1, Y.M.C.A. 4 beat New Accord 1.
