CHURCH STIPENDS
PRESBYTERIANS VIEW. NO CUTS TO BE MADE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 6. The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church unanimously declared the Rev. Adam Begg of Highfield, Timarui, as the Moderator Elect for 1932. A report pf a sub-committe© of elders which considered the question pf redvcng ministerial salaries was ores anted. The convener said that many ministers and missionaries had intimated their willingness to share the sacrifices made by the community, but the committee recognised that the stipends now paid were very inadequate and compared unfavourably with wages generally paid in the • community. •• -Moreover- they had not participated in increases that had characterised the salaries of others during the past few years. The committee was convinced there should be no reduction. His colleagues of the committee were all businessmen, said the convener. They were of the ,-dnion that the minimum stipend should he increased rather than decreased. The report was adopted.
