UNEMPLOYMENT BOARD SEAT
REPRESENTATIVE OF WORKERS. UNION WITHDRAWAL URGED. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 3. A circular has been issued to all unions proposing that there should be no nominations for the position of workers’ representative on the Unemployment Board rendered through the retirement of Mr. Biomlej. Opinion in trade union circles (s stated to be unanimous that no action will be taken from that quarter to fill the vacancy, on the ground that the Minister has the right to make the final choice, and not the unions. Nominations close on May 21, and already one or two unions have decided to take no part in the appointment of a membei. -■ Unions affiliated to the Alliance of Labour and the New Zealand Labour Party condemn the Unemployment Act. It is stated that Mr. W. T. Young, secretarv of the Wellington Seamen s Union, has been nominated, but that there is ai proviso for his withdrawal which will operate at the dictation ot the unions.
