NORMANBY.
HAUL FUND DANCE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Thursday evening another very successful dance, wasi held in the Nprmanby Town Hah, resulting in a substantial return, in aid pf the. haii fupds. Decorations toj the interior were carried out in a very tasteful manlier, and. with coloured. lights, and. tbp effect was exceedingly* pretty. Streamers, confetti and ba.llon dances were lmld, while. .several competitive items were included. A spot waltz was Avon by Mr R. Gainlin and Miss A. Radford. Monte Carlo dances acre a von by Mr N. Augustine and Miss Smith and Mr J. Rleynoids and Miss D. Briscp. Mesdanies F. Spheuber, L. Slinger, E'. J. Mcßetli and J. Tippett Ayere responsible. for the providing of a, most enjoyable supper. Music AA-as supplied! by Wills’ Melodyinakers Orchestra. Mr H. Jackson was M.C. TENNIS CLUB. ■ At a meeting of the Tennis. Chib during hast Aveek Mr A. Galloway presided over a good attendance. Sir E. T. Peach, chairman of the Normanby Toavii. Board, Ava.s present, and outlined the work done in .connection with the preparing of the neiy courts, and also the Avork necessary to complete the undertaking. ‘ It was decided to asphalt one court immediately, and to lay dpwn the other i n gras®. Honorary members, tickets are to be procured and a committee set. up to ■obtain members.
Rev. J. Watson, Mr M. Parslow and Miss H. Franklyn were appointed a rules committee.
The meeting eon eluded with a A'oto of thanks- to Mr'Pleach for his interest in the club’s Avelfare.
SCHOOL FOOTBALL.
On Thursday the Normanby School football team played, the Hawera Convent team at Normanby. For the first game of the season good form was shown, and with coaching, both teams should develop into good combination. Convent was leading until almost the final whistle, when a, mistake by one of the hacks let H. Tippett through, and a good run resulted in try being obtained under the posts. J. Bryant put the game out of doubt by a successful kick, the game ending shortly after with Normanby leading B—6.8 —6. The other three points: came from a try by T. Nicholson. For Convent J. Joyce scored a. try and kicked a penalty goal. Mr S. Tippett was- referee. GENERAL. A few days ago the large clam on Mr C. Coxhead’s farm on Ngaronga. Road was emptied for cleaning purposes, and a number of Maoris who were present secured over 170 eels. Many of the eels were of ai large size, although there were none of the traditional “taniwha” among the catch. A good many saicfcs were requisitioned! to carry away the haul. The filling on the Ohangai Road has been completed and there, is now a thoroughfare for traffic from the Katene to- the Ketemarae Roads. The Normanby dairy factory is now making butter/ haying gone out of cheese at the end of the month. A further donation of clothing for use in the earthquake area was received bv the Red Cross from Mrs. J. Magi 11. PERSONAL. Mrs J. A. Archbold has returned from her holiday. Mr V. Brunting is now about again, having made a good recovery from, his operation. M iss Doreen Lloyd is spending a holiday in Stratford.
