OLD HOTEL DESTROYED

FIRE AT BANKS PENINSULA. LINK WITH COACHING DAYS. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) ‘CHRISTCHURCH, April 8. Fire last evening destroyed the Hilltop Hotel, an old landmark on Banks Peninsula, practically nothing being saved. The hotel was a two-storey wooden building, built in 1880, and was a popular stopping place in the old coaching days. It was owned by Mr. H. W. Bell, of Christchurch, and was insured for £9OO. Mr. M. Petty, the licensee, is a heavy loser. The Government telephone bureau was also destroyed.

The need for protection against fire loss is obvious. Consult the Mercantile and General Insurance Company, .Ltd. Local Agents: Johnson and Hey, Grocers, Hawera. —Advt.
