WELLINGTON, April 7. A preliminary inquiry wlas- held today by the Superintendent- of the Mercantile Marine into the cause of the mishap to- the motor liner P-ort Hobart through striking a submerged object off Taurabiilae Head. No report was available to-day. L The- vessel bad been given a certificate of seaworthiness- and, having completed discharge at Wellington, leaves to-morrow for New Plymouth. She will then proceed to Port Chalmers to dry dock, later returning to New Pipmouth to start loading for England. The report of the diver show's that considerable damage Was done to the plates and starboard propeilor. A “general average ’’ lia® been declared over the vessel’s cargo.
