DREDGING FOR GOLD
WEST COAST INDUSTRY. NEW PONTOON LAUNCHED. (Bv Telegraph —Frees Association.) HOKITIKA, March 25. Tlic Rimu dredge No. 2 pontoon was successfully launched this afternoon in the presence of nearly 1000 people from all parts of the district. The new pontoon is entirely steel and will carry the machinery of No. 1 dredge, whieh has worked continuously for the past 10 years. Occasion was taken to present an address from the citizens to the manager of the company expressive of the goodwill of the community to the company, and the hope that the venture will prove as successful in the future as in the past. The Mayor of Hokitika and County Council representatives were among the sepakers. Subsequently the workmen were entertained by the company, and to-night a citizens’ ball is being tendered to the management in the Soldiers’ Hall. Perfect weather prevailed for the function.
