HAWERA TRACK NOTES

With several trainers away at Rangitikei there was not much fast vork performed on the Hawera tracks ;his morning.

The most interesting item was the mile gallop of the Trentham engaged norses. Chief Link and Silvermine. this was accomplished in 1.44 on the plough, which was In fast order. The pace was even right through, the first and concluding half-miles taking 52see. each. Silvermine finished a shade in front.

Ihe hurdlers, Airtight and Copey, were given solid pace work over a couple of rounds. Mendip, who still makes a noise, was worked at half-pace, similar work being performed by Orazono.

Bitlex. Whirl and Awaken were sent i wonting gallop over six furlongs, inishing in that order and taking 1 .•20 for the journey. Bright Glow was not extended in her pace work, which was performed in good style. Jionogne went a round of threcpiarter pace work nicely. Reremoana again finished ill front jf Hampden over lialf-a-nule traversed .11 50 l~ssec. Silver Tinge worked a round solidly. Calamine worked over seven furlongs comfortably in 1.35. Tenteall. Goldzone and Richland were allotted useful exercise.

The two-year-olds, Barbacnn, Peter Jackson, Grand Star and the Australian Sun gelding were given some sprinting. Tenacre (W. Grindly) jumped three mrdles smartly, afterwards doing a •ound of the plough. Orhy’s Choice, at his tenth attempt, managed to break his maiden status it Bulls on Wednesday and he may do the owner-trainer Brough good service before the season closes. General satisfaction has been expressed at the decision of the Egmont [lacing Club to hold the May meeting on a Wednesday and Thursday, thus giving the town people an opportunity to attend on the half-holiday.

STRATFORD HACK CUP PRESENTATION BY PRESIDENT. APRIL MEETING EVENTS. Included in the programme submitted by the Stratford Racing Club, and approved by the District Committee on Tuesday.evening as being highly satisfactory for the occasion of the races on April 23, the date when the Stratford Club will make use of its new permit, is the Stratford Hack Cup, run over Si furlongs. For this race the president (Mr. Sidney Pitt) has donated a trophy valued at .-£25 in addition to the stakes to mark the occasion o) the club’s success in at last obtaining an additional permit. The programme will he as follows: Toko Hurdle Handicap, open event, of I f miles, over six flights of hurdles.
