DOMINION TITLES BRIDSON RETAINS TWO HUNDRED YARDS AND MILE. (By Teiejfraph—Press Association.) WANGANUI, March 4. A gallery of 1200 watched swimmers contest events in the New Zealand championships at the Gonville baths this evening, when the first day’s programme was completed. The weather was fine, but cold. G. Bridson, of Auckland, retained, the men’s 100 yards and one mile titles, ias did L. G. Moorehouse, of Canterbury, the men’s 150 yards backstroke. The Aucklander, Miss Marie Farquhar, took the women’s IQO yards title held by Miss K. Miller, who has retired from the amateur ranks. The meeting is expected to conclude on Saturday. CUP POINTS. Yaldhurst Cup points at the conclusion of the evening events were: Auckland 25. Canterbury 9. 'Wellington 6. South Canterbury 1. Further results are: MEN’S: 100' YARDS FINAL. G. With 44 laps to go Bridson lapped Gowan and. Reid and went on to win by two and a-half laps. TARANAKI REPRESENTATION. POLO AND SURF TEAMS. The Taranaki polo team proceeds to Wanganui to-day and has been drawn to play Canterbury to-night. Canterbury holds the polo championship banner in conjunction with Auckland. The Taranaki team will be: Goal. W. J. Tommey (Fitzroy); backs. C. Evans (Inglewood) and N. Lealand (New Plymouth); half, C. H. Plumtree (Fitzrov, captain); forwards, C. Shaw (New Plymouth), R. Crossman (Inglewood) and H. J. Thomas (Fitzroy). Lealand replaces L. Petty (New Plymouth), who was unable to travel. Mir. W. J. Toornev has been appointed! manager. The team will return during the weekend. , The Annette Kellerman Cup race, the three-mile New Zealand open-water championship, is to be held in the Wanganui River oil Friday. From Taranaki there will probably be three .entries, those of H. St. George (Fitzroy), N. Gardiner (East End) and B- Dudley (Opunake). „ .... The star event on Saturday will be the.
