TOWN BOARD MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent). The monthly meeting of the Opunako Town Board wa&Jield last night. Those present were Messrs. A. J. Brennan (chairman), S. Dudley, D. Mourie, 1. Hammond, H. C. Smith, S. Boyd anti H E : . Lodge, town clerk. A letter was received from the secretary of the Elgin out County Schools Sports Association asking permission to use the domain for the purpose of holding the annual school sports on March 25. —Permission was granted. Messrs. T. P. Hughson, jnr., of Opunake, and Clemence, of Rahotu, were, elected to represent the Town Board on the Egmont National Park Board. It was decided to purchase a sprayer for use with “Colfix” at a cost of £52. The old sprayer in the possession of the hoard is to he 'placed under offer to the agents for sale. The foreman (Mr. J. de Castio) presented estimates of the aost of surface sealing and pf gravelling and sealing with Colfix eight chains of Domett, Street. —This matter was held over for further consideration.

The foreman, reported as follows on work carried out duing the month: Allison Street, four chains of road were clay-blinded, four chains of footpath cleaned, and the intersections of Allison Stree t and Domett Street a fid Allison Street and Main Road patched. Main Road:, eight chains of footpath were patched and top-dressed with Colfix. Diffenbaoh Street, eight chains of footpath were cleaned. Domett Street, eight chains of footpath were patched and top-dressed with Colfix. The intersection of Domett Street and Jetty Road was patched and the roadway attended to where necessary. Dawson Street, eight chains of footpath were cleaned. Gisborne Terrace, thirtyeight 3ft. pipes were carted to tlie creek at tlie hack of Mr. O’Brien’s residence and placed in position and a start made with the filling. Main Street, the water channels were cleaned and rubbish collected, taking one day. Six' men were employed under the number 5 relief scheme for the past three weeks, grubbing gorse and filling in a culvert.

Some discussion ensued regarding tlie placing of workers engaged under tlie No. 5 scheme ancl it was decided that the matter be left in the hands of tlie works committee with power to act. Should the scheme he continued after the end of the month the u'brlcs committee will be required to furnish a larger scheme of work. A circular embodying the resolution passed at the recent conference of Local Bodies, was read. AVith regard to the chief item that of the reduction of wageis of the staff, it was decided to take no action in the matter pendin'* a special meeting which will Lx* called shortly to consider the estimates for the coming year. The clerk was instructed to take proceedings for the recovery of all rates outstanding for a period: of two- years or more. In reply to a member of the board it was staffed that the board could not accept offers to take out the rates in work.

Accounts totalling £346 11s 7d were passed for payment. Tlie ranger reported as follows: Cattle impounded' during the month.Two cows and one bull. Cattle released on tlie road, four horses and three cows.

Licenses for cows grazing in the town are to be issued on the same conditions as for last year. As next meeting falls on. Easter Monday it was decided to change the' date of meeting to Monday April 13. It was decided to donate £lO to the earthquake relief fund: In answer to a request that the hoard assist in defraying the out-of-pocket expenses incurred in the operation of the_ Unemployment Committee it was decided to reply that- the hoard was willing to hoar its share of the cost.

CEMETERY AND DOMAIN. At a subsequent meeting of the Cemetery Board the matter of the extension of the burial ground was left in the hands of the works committee with power to'act. Subsequently the Domain Board decided to remove tlie remainder of the superstructure of the grandstand at the domain, the work to be carried out by members of the unemployed. EARTHQUAKE RELIEF.

The secretary of the Town Board reports that local and district contributions to the earthquake relief fund total £440 to date.
