AUCKLAND HARBOUR BRIDGE

CONSTRUCTION PROPOSALS. COUNTY COUNCIL'S SUPPORT. Messrs Wills and Ashdowne attended the last meeting of the Waitemata County Council with a view to securing the council’s support for the granting of a charter to the Harbour Bridge Company, Limited, Auckland (reports the “Star”). Air Wills said that there was no intention of rating property, but the security would he the bridge and the tolls. ‘ British capital would be furnished lor the project. The toll would not exceed the present charges imposed by the ferries. Construction would be under Government supervision. The company would act merely as supervisor under Government control, and accounts would be under Government audit. The company would not be able to sell the charter, and the license to construct would he given to Messrs Dorman Long and Company. Councillors expressed hearty approval of the proposal, and it was resolved to support the application for the charter.
