Vigilance Methods A44]i T>ETNKt spied upon is the unpleasant.. fear that many employees wi.llj have following a, revelation made in England that an American firm is attempting to introduce xt “vigilance system” in that country. ‘The. “Sunday Chronicle” learns that there lia«i been started in London. a “Private Inquiry Association,” which is now engaged in circularising employms throughout the country ottering to “keep watch over”, members of staffs who may be employed in positions of responsibility. For an annual subscription, the “Inquiry Association” offers to supply a “vigilance service,” a specimen .of which is supplied in the following form: Jones, J.—Head cashier. Previously with Messrs in similar capacity. Left of own accord. Drinks occasionally. Wife extravagant, and does no work herself. Both bet on Jiorses. Jones also dabbles in football coupons. Reported to be about to buy a house on rent-purchase system, and borrowed deposit. Both man 1 and wife require to be watched.
The “Inquiry Association” make, it a boast in their printed matter that is :now being distributed that “they allow |not even the most trifling episode in an employee’s life to and unnoted by them,” and in support of this print a specimen “record'’ cn something like the following lines: Number. —789,543. Name. —Jones, Arthur James. I Address.—999 Utopia Street, Millchester. . - Condition: Married, family : One son. Employers.—Granite Sandwich Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Position.—Assistant Cashier. Salary.—Five pounds weekly. Life Insurance. —-Kfctonomy and Industrial Co., Ltd. Property.—Nil. Furniture cf house in name of wife. , Bank Balance. —Low, and frequently! overdrawn to small amount. | Clubs. —Ali lob ester Social, Nomads i Tennis, South End Football. I Remarks. —Attends greyhound racing,] local ra.ee meetings, and plays cards ] and billiards. Previous Eimployment.—Nil. I Character. —Good. 1
