Local bowling enthusiasts' congregated at. the Park Club’s green yesterday afternoon as interested spectators of the shield match between Park and Hawera Wednesday teams. After Park’s defeat of the Hawera Saturday’s representatives on Saturday last, it was confidently expected that a good game would be witnessed in yesterday’s match. Park needed a win to. tie for first place with the Hawera Wednesday representatives, and a play-off will now be necessary. Of the six rinks participating, Hawera Wednesday rinks won two, tied in one, and lost three games. Substantial wins were recorded by Smith and Quin for Park, whilst Colman narrowly defeated Tait. The game between Chadwick and Corkill provided a great contest and resulted in a draw, 23 all. Bull beat Goodwin in a dingdong contest and Cropton proved too go.od for Mason by seven points. Notwithstanding the tenseness of the games the highest goodwill prevailed, and the afternoon was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
