N.Z. PRODUCE BOARDS

AMALGAMATION UEGED RESOLUTION OE TOLL’S LIP.ECTOR S. At ii meeting of directors of the JolL Dairy Company, lield on Monday last, it was decided to -support the proposal of the Mangatoki Dairy Company in the direction of asking tlie Government to introduce legislation to allow of the amalgamation of the Dairy, Meat, Fruit and Honey Boards. The opinion was expressed that as these boards were operating for identical purposes, viz., the arranging for the shipping, insurance (and advertising of New Zealand produce, one hoard could more efficiently and economically administer the interests of producers generally in that direction. The directors were further of opinion that the present method of shipping all dairy produce under one brand, irrespective of quality, was against the best interests of the industry. It was stated that “the Fernleaf brand covers both full cream and standardised cheese and all grades of quality, and as is generally known the standard for marketing is always set by the poorer and not the higher quality.’’ The directors agreed that the incentive to improve quality was more pronounced when companies were marketing their produce under their own inIdividual brands, and were unanimously of opinion that this system, previously in operation, should be reverted to as early as possible.
