ELECTRIC POWER RESTRICTED

The monthly meeting of the Kaponga Town Board was held on Tuesday evening. There were present: Commissioners K. A, Law, H, ,J. Mills,, W. Marr, \V. Oran, and J. P. Gibson. An apology for absence was received from the chairman. C’r. A. P. Bates. Iho chair was taken by deputv-ehairman Commissioner E, A. Law.

Accounts amounting to £5 no 3s 9d were passed for payment.

Owing to the shortage of water and as a temporary expedient only it. was decided that both power houses? will be closed down from midnight until 4.30 a.in. until the position improves.

GENERATOE FAULT

The engineer (Mr A. W. Anderson) reported as follows: “Further to the report of a fault- in No. 2 generator included in my report for December, T have to state that a fault developed in •No. 1 generator on Friday, January 23 at approximately 3.30 p.m., due to a piece of drift-wood having fouled the governor and inpeded its normal operation. thus permitting the machine 10 race and damage the hearings, armature and field coils. The damage was repaired and the generator in service again bv approximately 4 p.m. on Rat urdnv, jamtarv 24.

BULK SUPPLY PUT?CHARED

“.A total of 43,430 units were generated. in No. 2 power house representing a decrease of 13,000 units on the figures for the same month of last year. While a purchase of bulk power to the extent of 12,090 units plus 02 k.v.n. at at cost: of Tod 3s was made, this being an increase of £3O oil the bull; purchase for January, 1930. The decreased generation and increased purchase is du«‘ partly to the restricted stream flow and partly to the necessity to purchase while the generator was out. of commission.

“The highest generation figures for any one day was 1860 units on the 14th, while the lowest was 970 units on the 11th. A set of stator coils and Hew slip rings for this generator have been ordered as authorised at your last meeting. The plant was shut down from S p.m. on January 27 to 4 p.m. on January 30 to permit repairs and alterations hereinafter mentioned to be carried out. An advantage was taken to overhaul bearings and packing gland in the turbine and align and permanently rpbed the generator.

“A certain amount of trouble on the reticulation was caused by storms, severe wind squalls having caused dislocation of the service on the morning of Hie 12th by causing the operation of the automatic switches on the bulk supply transmission line aud on the distribution lines, besides breaking a pole on the upper Mangawliero Eoad. A pole on the lower Mangawliero Eoad was broken in a storm on January 28th. “The sub-station and lines to the Town Hall bringing the A. 'C. were completed early in the month and the Town Hall and Town -Board Chambers were changed over to A. C. on the 21st. The obsolete concrete pole structure in the centre of the town was removed and replaced by a more satisfactory hardwood pole together with the extended concrete pole and span removed on the western side along the Elt-ham Eoad. ’

The engineer also outlined alterations aud repairs carried out at the No. 1 dam. All apparatus at the dam was now -working satisfactorily. He paid tribute to the town foreman (Mr A. Melville) for capable assistance in cleaning out the dam . The foreman (Mr A. Alelville) reported that during the month he was engaged on general maintenance work. At present he was supervising the various works being carried under the unemployment relief scheme.
