REPETITION FOR EMPHASIS

(To the Elditor.) Sir, —Please allow me to add my small voice or protest to that of “mere housewiie's." If Alx Murray s contention be true. —that our cheese is of the Dost and can. hold its own anywhere (elan implication to that ettect) then, one sh uuoers to contemplate cneese oi poorer quality! lam afraid with Mr Murray (as with g good many others) it's a case of “if Ala says ’tis so, ,’tis so —even if it isn't sol" I have no Hesitation in saying—without fear that anyone would dare call me a pervancator of the truth—that the average cneese one lias thrust upon one locahy is msiped, unpalatable and indigestible to a degree, in fact, it is the limit —and only lit for consumption when cooKed (if then). When freshly bought its axi pea ranee is anything but pleasing, and when out a few hours it is indeed a sight, tor sore eyes in its multi-coloured, mouldmess. Aud if it is a sample of what is expected, I don’t blame any housewife, however patriotic, for turning up her selfrespecting British nose at it. The cheese sold here seems, more often than not, like a nasty mixture of rubber and soap, and if an oblong-shaped piece were left accidentally on the washhouse shelf, the \vash-lady r would quite oneerfuliy rub it on the linen. Pernaps, when nearly everyone in Taranaki is looking for a job, the ostriches will remove their heads from the sand, take a look around and say “Cheese? Did anyone say cheese? Please don't all speak at once!’—l am, etc.,

HOUSEAIAID,
