Tho Hawera Amateur Swimming Club’s annual picnic will be held at Kaupokonui Beach to-morrow. A bus will leave the post office at 10 a,in. At the Winter Show Buildings on Thursday next at 8 p.m. the Druids’ social committee will hold a euchre and dauce in aid of the Napier and Hawke’s Bay earthquake relief fund. Good prizes will be offered, including coal, sugar, tea, shirt and collar, pyjamas, photo views, etc., with many other prizes for novelty dances. The Stratford Technical High School Board has resolved to close the girls’ hostel at the end of the first term, the headmaster having reported that the scheme had not met with much success.

To-morrow at St. John's Presbyterian Church. Rev. R. E. Evans will deal with the subject of “Earthquakes and their voices." and appropriate music will be rendered by the choir. The Mew Zealand Institute of Architects’ gold medal for 1930 has been awarded by the jury of the Royal Institute of Architects, London, to Mr S. S. Alleman ,of Auckland, for the design of the Hampton Court Flats, Auckland.

The sixth anual summer show under the auspices of St. Mark’s, Kaponga, will be held in the Town Hall, Kaponga, on Friday, February 27. A splendid schedule has been arranged and copies may be obtained from the secretary at Kaponga. The sections include pot plants, cut flowers, decorative, farm and garden produce, fruit, domestic, sewing and fancy work and a novice class. In addition there is a big section for school work which carries with it a .special points prize of a miniature silver cup. The show is to be officially opened at 2 p.m. by Mr C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., and will continue on through the afternoon and evening. Entries will close with the secretary on February 26.
