DOUBLE ACCIDENT
CAR KNOCKS A lAN DOWN. LATER. HIT BY CYCLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 18. Four persons were injured in a double accident which occurred on the Ellerslie-Panmure Road, near Pan mu re last evening when a motor-car struck a man, and a while later collided with a motor-cycle on which three persons were riding. The car, which was driven by Air. E. D. Sutherland, of Onehunga, was travelling toward Ellerslie when the man, Air. James Naden, of Ponsonby, stepped out on the road from behind a stationary car at the side of the road. He was knocked down, receiving severe injuries to his back, and was taken to Auckland Hospital, where his condition was stated to he fairly serious. After driving a short distance to a telephone to summon an ambulance and the police, Air. Sutherland drove hack to the place where the accident occurred, and as lie was turning a collision occurred with a motor-cycle and sidecar, off which three were violently hurled. One of the three, Aliss Elsie Jones, aged 18, whose parents live at Takanini, received injuries to her head. The driver, Air. Edward Coad, aged 21, of Turama Road, Royal Oak, was also injured about the head, while another young man, Air. O’Halloran, living at Onehunga, received head injuries and a fractured jaw. All were taken to Auckland Hospital by ambulance. Mr. Coad and the girl were stated to he in a serious condition this evening, but Mr. O’JTalloran’s condition is not serious.
