WELLINGTON SUMMER MEETING (Notes by “Maecenas.”) Favoured with splendid acceptances-, both in class and numbers, the Wellington Racing Club will have a successful meeting from a sporting point of view, but whether the financial side will be similarly favoured remains to be seen. Racing at Trentham is viewed with advantages rarely offered onji ract*eour-sc, # aud for that reason the Wellington Racing Club gatherings are possibly the most popular held in our Dominion. The race track is in splendid order for to-morrow’s contests, and the sport- looks like reaching the usual high standard of previous meetings of the club. TR.ENTH A M HIGH-WEIGHT. The Trentham Highweight hears an open appearance. Avro won at the recent meeting of the Manawatu Racing Club, but will want to -bo at his best to win to-morrow. Tunbridge meets aim on only 3fb» better terms, but the shorter distance will favour Tunbridge. The Australian-bred Trish.ua won a similar class race at Takapuna in the spring, and can gallop when in the humour. I’m Alone did not show up at Foxton, but that form can be overlooked. Crennatown pleased at Stratford, and Ross hire always run well. The two northerners. Trishna and Rosshire, may prove most dangerous to Tun-i bridge. WELLINGTON STAKES. Of 1000 sovs. Five furlongs.

If brought south for the- Wellington Stakes, Karapoti will have a big following, despite his big weight. The race is composed mostly of two-year-olds, and they appear to hold a strong position. La Poupeo, Ammon Ra and Korokio should prove very dangerous. Gesture may be the best of the older division should Karapoti not start. APPRENTICES’ PLATE. Of 260 sovs. Seven furlongs.

A number of very promising hacks will eon test the Apprentices’ Plate, and qnitq a number can he quoted as holding good prospects in the event. At the recent meeting of the Auckland Racing Club i Paratoo, Jaloiix and Tobaceoland ran well, while Arisus. Pythia and others were prominent at other meetings. I With 20 acceptors of our well-per-formed horses for the Wellington. Cup, the club should be well satisfied. At 9.12 Nightmarcli cannot be dismissed lightly, and Historic should run well under 9.3. Concentrate did best of all the top weights that contested the recently run Auckland Cup. but is not. a likely starter. Gay Crest registered some splendid performances (luring the holidays, and won the Auckland Racing Club Handicap very decisively, carrying S.O, so with an additional 91bs he may be favourite to-morrow. In the Shade has been disappointing of late, and the form of First Acre at Foxton was nothing to enthuse over when the class of his opponents is considered. At - the time of writing. Several of the acceptors for the Telegraph Handicap are brilliant, but on the whole the class falls short of many previous years. Even under 9.7, Hunting Cry must lie. regarded as dangerous. Consent ran well at the Manawatu fixture, and Meadow Lark performed similarilv at the Dunedin meeting. Arrow Lad has been raced over middle distances, and this- may impair liis brilliancy. Hunting Day was disappointing in bis Auckland clforts, but Bayacre did well at Ellerslie, and may be olio of the chief fancies for to-morrow’s Telegraph Handicap. Autopay lias not raced well of late, but Tenterden showed a glimpse of form at Ellerslie to run third. In a difficult proposition, Hunting Cry, Tenterden and Bayacre are liable to show up well.
