CONDENSED CORRESPONDENCE
In a letter to the Editor on the subject of cheese standardisation, J. P. Ivalauglier, secretary of the Ncav Zealand Friesian Association, traverses the arguments brought against standardisation by Mr W. A. lorns, chairman of the Dairy Board, Mr A. C. Ross, dairy factory instructor and ex-gradcr in London, Mr P. O. Veale and others. The letter concludes: “Can avc expect the Dairy Division, Department of Agriculture, to lead the Avay in this fight for justice? The HaAvera “Star” in an editorial, 11th December, 1930, says: ‘The Dairy Divi-. sion by its failure to initiate reforms, to advise and guide the industry, has lost the confidence of suppliers.’ In spite of all this CAddence, the Minister of Agriculture, acting presumably on the adA'ice of his departmental officers, is allowing the export from Noav Zealand of cheese made from partially skimmed milk. Such action is highly detrimental to the best interests of the dairy farmers of New Zealand, aylio at tlie present are sadly in need of that extra million and a quarter pounds sterling they Avould bo getting if we exported full cream cheese equal in quality to Canadian cheese.” “Lex” write's drawing attention to the action of an East Coast magistrate j in refusing to make orders against debt- : ors appearing on judgment summons on j the grounds that they had been de-l priA’cd of their employment by the Gov- j eminent’s decision to abandon certaini railway construction works. The eorre- ] spondent states, “the constitutional is-' sues iiwolved by liis action are grave,” and adds that “it will be decidedly interesting to watch subsequent events.”,'
