Arriving on Saturday on the Hobson iJav, a young New Zealander, Haiold Baskin "encountered at Waterloo -station a’ confidence man who pleaded nlinger Baskin took him to an adioining hotel, bought the man a dinner and allowed him to share a bedroom. When Baskin awoke the guest was missing; also Baskin’s wallet containing all" lie possessed, £3B, together with his references and clothing. Australia House cabled friends at Sydney lor help and meanwhile arranged tor the Y M C V to tare for Baskin, who was very" depressed. He took, poison last nifht and died this morning. The police believe they have recognised the man Baskin described as a man wanted for similar offences. Baskin was an orphan. He was unable to shake off depression owing to ins failure to secure work.
