Thirteen members of the crew of the steamer June appeared in the Lyttelton Court to-day charged with deserting the ship at Lyttelton on December 31. They pleaded not guilty. Captain Thorn Haimevig was crossexamined at length in® to the food given to tlie men on the voyage to Nauru Island. He said it was regulation food and that whenever he could l be purchased fresh supplies. The defence was that tlio ship was undermanned and that they had been ill-treated. The men counter-claimed for back pay and fares to their ports. The ease is proceeding.
