EARLY MORNING FIRE.

HOUSE OCCUPANT ALONE.

A narrow escape from death was experienced by Mr. J. J. Leydon, when a four-roomed house, which lie owned and occupied in Himtly South, on the bank of the Waikato River, was destroyed by fire shortly after six o’clock on Saturday morning. All the furniture in the house was also destroyed. Air. Leydon. who was sleeping alone in tlie house, narrowly escaped 'being trapped by tlie flames. He was found by neighbours shortly after the outbreak occurred lying in the backyard overcome by smoke. A house dose by, also owned by Mr. Leydon, and occupied by Mr. Lt. Wilson, was menaced by the flames for a time as the wind was blowing toward it-. It- was saved.' bv the efforts, of a bucket brigade, which carried water front the river. j
