VITAL STATISTICS
ELTHAM AND KAPONGA RETURNS.
INCREASE IN BIRTHS
The return of vital statistics for Eltliam for December, and also for the October-Decemher quarter, 19a0, reveal an increase in the number of births and deaths compared with the figures for the corresponding period or the previous year. On the other hand, there are fewer marriages. The registrations for the month were as follow, the figures for December, 1929, being shown in parentheses.-—Births, 12 (6); deaths, 3 (0); marirages, i (4).
For the quarter the registrations totalled 26 births (compared with 17 for the corresponding period in 1929), six deaths (compared with three) and four marriages (compared with six).
KAPONGA REGISTRATIONS
An increase of approximately 50 per, cent, is shown in the registrations of births, deaths and marriages at Ivaponga for 1930, as compared with 1929. For the month of December there were 8 (5) births; 4 (1) deaths; and 3 (1) marriages. The quarterly returns were: —Births .24 (8); deaths, 8 (2); and marriages 4 (1). The increases in the registrations for the year just ended, with comparisons, are detailed as under:—
