TALKS IN BARBER’S CHAIR. : Under the soothing influence of ai barber’s razor, Marshal Joffre, one- of France’s war heroes, recently broke his rule of not talking about the war. With, a cheery greeting to everybody, “Papa” Joffre entered the barber’s shop in the suburb of St. Germain, where a luckey newspaper correspondent- was awaiting his turn in the chair. When the barber suggested that Foch did not like Ciemeuceo.ll. Marshal Joffre snapped angrily “He was right.” Questioned about his consideration of the battle of the Marne. Marshall Joffre saiil: “Yes, I think about it often. If I had listened to Gallieni .1 would have given the order to attack much too soon “But T wished to wait. 1 knew when to choose-the hour; the rest was done by my soldiers and their leaders. ‘French soldiers, are admirable. They and "the Germans "are the bed lightersin the world.”
