Since the announcement a few days ago that, camps for the training of cffi ccrs ami non-commissioned officers of the Territorial forces were to be postponed, rumours have been current that the personnel of the permanent forces of the Defence Department is to bo reduced by at least half it® present strength. During the week-end these rumours were particularly insist>nt in military circles, both among Territorial and permanent officers, but when approached last- evening, the General Officer 'Commanding the NCw Zealand Forces. Major-General R. Young, hadi no eom'ment to make. He was not prepared to deny or admit whether there was any truth in the rumours or not. “You Will have to see th(> ’Minister,” he said, but beyond that he had no observations to make.
