AERO CLUB’S NEW BUILDINGS. SAWMLLLEiR’S STRONG PROTEST. ißy Telegraph—Press Association.) MARTON, Nov. 29. A vigorous protest against the action of the Auckland Aero Club in calling tenders for new buildings in which 66 per cent of the timber required is specified as Oregon and redwood was entered this afternoon by Mr. J. A. Bush, of Marton, in a telegram to the chairman of the Unemployment Board. Mr. Bush is chairman,of the Sawmillers’ Timber Trading Company, Ltd., and is probably -more conversant with the industry than anyone else in the Dominion. He stressed in the telegram the amount ol unemployment among timber workers and points out the unfair competition of American timber. The Aero Club, he alleges, was financed by an art -union. He considered it unfair that the public should have contributed to a scheme the promoters of which ignored the quality of New Zealand timber and by their action accentuated the unemployed problem. The Dominion’s timber industry, Mr. Bush says, is in a bad way, and lie urges the chairman of the board to intervene before the tenders close to-day.
