DEPORTATION ENDS ROMANCE
The romance of a 1 Soviet agent who fell in love with the nineteen-year-old daughter of a prominent Biitishi resident in Constantinople has been abmptiy terminated by th© Paris police. The man’s name is Georges Agaibedoff. He is a Russian-Armenian, aged 35, and, according to himself, h© was the chief of the Cheka in the Near East, with headquarters in Constantinople. The man arrived in Paris on June 30. Closely following him came the English girl, determined to marry him. Closely folloiving them both cam© the English girl’s mother, determined to prevent the marriage. The mother has beep, successful —for the moment. Official wheels were set turning, and Georges Agabekoff has been ' expelled ~- from France. According to his st-ory, Agabekoff was in Constantinople, disguised as a Persian carpet merchant, when h© met the girl and the two fel*l in love. She did nob know anything about the Russian’s secrets, but eventually, he told her, and she pursuaded him to abandon the Communist cause. Among his other exploits, he boasted of procuring and decoding all confidential message® that had passed between the British High Commissioner in Egvpt and Londbn. .-.- V, August 9, French! police officials entered the Russian’s hotel, and said that hirs two months’ permission to reside here was up. They packed his -rttfips and conducted him to the Belgian border. Mother and daughter were after-"-1 -rls staving in a Paris hotel. The '*l*ll*l was being urged to return both®but she refused to go. And there, for the moment, the matter rested on August 12.
