HAWERA TRACK NOTES
(By “Limited.”)
The weather on Saturday was particularly bad for training operations on the Egmont course and very little work of importance was performed. Luckily the horses are well forward. The outside of the course proper was open for trainers desirous of doing fast work, but was not used to much extent. The going after the all-night rain was very heavy. The following gives details of the fast work executed.
C. Jackson gave Gasfielcl a sprint over three furlongs and the ungainly looking gelcTing did well to run home in 41 jsec.,' handling the going] better than anything else that galloped subsequently. Bonogne and Garrick finished together over ihalf-a-mile traversed in 55 2-ssec.
Chief Link' went a working gallop, but was not at home in the heavy stuff.
Isa took 45sec. to run the last three furlongs of her work.
Joyspear and Gasnapper were given easy exercise on the inside oval.
The Warden was not impressive in his work out over five furlongs, the last half-mile occupying 56-jsee. Kiosk. Prince Desmond, Green Linnet. Zadarino and Banbridge, all Waverley candidates, were given strong pace work on the sand track. Silvermine went well in a working gallop over a round, coming home his last half-mile comfortably in 57-jsec.
The hurdlers Goblin Market and Tenacre, galloped a mile together. The former handled the going the better and finished in front, the journey occupying over two minutes.
Mendin and Mt. Shannon were allotted pace work on the sand. The two-year-olds Goldfinder and the Thespian filly from O. Cox’s stable scampered a couple of furlongs down the hack smartly, Goldfinder again moving attractively:
