THE FISHING SEASON
A REMARKABLE CATCH. There is on view at Messrs Bennett and Sutton’s a catch of trout made by Mr Clias. Davies, of Manaia, which is one of the best ever made in a South Taranaki river. The catch comprises five very fine fish, from s)lb down to 41b, and was taken in the Waingongoro on the fly the black gnat. Mr Davies reports that the rivers are all full of fish and that the season is one of the best ever experienced by anglers in this district. He has carefully watched in the course of his tours and has seen very large innnbers of good fish waiting for the i angler who will study them and thus overcome their natural shyness and watching for danger. He still insists that the South Taranaki fishing is, in his opinion, 'the host, in New Zealand and he has had a wide experience. But of one tiling he is convinced—that the angler for fly fishing needs fine tackle and a small flv.
