(Inm-.l Ff.— Asi-oeLAtK.n— By EW-t.rw T-Wrapt. iJopyrtsTDt ) COLOGNE, Oct. 21. At least 95 miners wore killed and 7<finjured in an appalling explosion in a coal mine near Alsdorf early tins morning. Two thousand men were working in the mine and many are still entombed, their fate being uncertain. The victims include numerous oiiiciais and men employed in the pithead build-ino-s. which went skywards when 20001 b o f°dynamite stored at a depth of 1000 ft exploded as a result of excessive temperatures. The terrific detonation was heard miles away. Gigantic flames and black clouds of smoke arose, beams, pieces of roof, walls and windows were hurled in tho air, along with machinery. The 150 ft, tower containing the pit cage was reduced to debris, from' which came cries of the wounded. Some of those killed..were found. 250 yards from the scene of the explosion. A woman clerk was among the slain. Another clerk was hurled against an iron safe and killed. Rescue operations were not hampered by gas, but some of those who escaped state that part of the pit is on fire.
