GIRL GUIDES
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Kaponga Girl Guide Association was lieldi m Die Parish Hall on Friday evening last. Mrs J. Guy (retiring president) occupied) the chair and there was. a good attendance of members. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance qf 7s (id over the year s workinci*. The following report was received: During the last year our Guide movement has steadily advanced and interest is actively maintained by Guides, Brownies and friends. We had the double misfortune during the year oi losing the services as secretary of Mrs A. V. Tait, who resigned) through illhealth, and Miss M. Johnston, captain of the Guides, who had accepted a position at Wanganui. Miss I- Melville kindly took over the duties of captain, with Miss M. Webby as lieutenant, and under these officers we feel the Guides will continue to maintain their reputation as an efficient company. Miss Cos.sum, as Brown Owl, was handicapped in the early part of the year, being without assistance; then Miss' Hilda Guy kindly assisted her until her departure from Kaponga. Since then Miss Myra Harding has taken over the duties of Tawney and! we now feel sure that the Brownies will be as successful as the Guides. As. will be noticed from the balance-sheet, the expenses in connection with the Guides are heavy, Kaponga next year having to find £5 for Dominion levy, in addition to Is per head for each Guide. Headquarters are asking that each Guide and Brownie pay her own by contributing Id per month. In November last the committee organised a “bring and buy”, evening which enabled us to send tlie Guides to the annual rally at New Plymouth. Finance is in immediate need l and it will be necessary for the incoming executive to raise funds to carry on. The election of officers resulted: President, Mrs J. Guy (re-elected); vice-presidents Mesdames J. Hesseli, L. Abbott and J, I. It. Gray; committee, Mesdames Harding, Cossum, Tattorsall, Dawson, Evans, Law, Cook, Tyaek, Fallows and Tonkin; secretary, Airs Brewer; auditor, Mr F. W. Fallows.
It was subsequently decided to bold a “bring and buy” evening early in November in aid of the Guide funds.
