On Monday evening next the- Ilawora Bawling Chib will continue its men’s card evenings. These functions have been very successful so far, the funds being devoted towards at new mower for the green.
A vote, of condolence with the widow and family of the late Mr. J. Granville was passed at the meeting of the Eltham County Council to-day. The chairman said that Mr. Granville had in the past given .good service on the council.
At the monthly meeting of the Eltliam County Council to-day Mr. _FI Gawith was elected as representative on the electing committee of the Stratfordford Technical High School Board, a vacancy created by the resignation of Mi*. J. Cocker.
An original play, “The Remedy” lias ‘been written by Mrs. Shackleton, of Hawera, and this will be staged in the Methodist Hall on Monday evening un- [ der the aegis of the Baptist Bible Class girls. The presentation, will be pictorial and in the scenes will be introduced street scenes in India, depicting tlie life of the people. The leading artists will be Miss W. Mills (singing), Miss Joan Tonks (elocution) and Mr. J. Moloney (violin). The dialogue is exceedingly clever and is a credit to the writer.
The training of pilots at the Hawera aerodrome was continued in perfect flying weather this afternoon, when trainees were given 15 minutes’ tuition by the Western Federated Flying Clubs’ instructor, Flying Officer Keith. B. Haybittle, B. Nicholas, T. McCarten, H. A. Lamb and R. Beatson made flights to-day, while O. R. Canty, R, Beatson and H. A. Lamb received instruction yesterday.
