FURTHER SETBACK IN AUGUST

LONDON, Sept. 11. The prelminary Board of Trade returns show a further setback in overseas trade in August. Imports are bare I v £80,000,000, compared; w itli £IOIBOO,OOO in August, 1929. Exports are £42,000,000, compared with £63.00,000 in the same month last year. Imports decreased £21,071,000, exports £20.267,000, and re-exports £2,678,000. The principal decreases i n imports were: Grain and flour, £2,9(4,000- meat, £1,960,000; noil-dutiable food and drink, £2,643,000; wood and timber. £1.031,000; raw cotton, £l.538.000; rubber. £1,394,000; non-fer-rous metals, £909,000. Decreases in exports were; Coal. £760,000; iron and steel and manufacturers thereof. £l,968.000: cotton yarn manufactures, £5 465.000- woollen manufactures, £2,129,000.
