We have many flowers out now and the garden looks quite gay. Baby is four-and-a-half months old now and he is very big. This morning my brothers, my sister and iny father went to give the cattle some hay but I stayed at home as I had to feed the lamb. Love .JtP'. Margaret Sundviek. yr (Wfff'inust be very jolly to have a lamp' all your very own Margaret. Love. S.Q.). Whareroa Ed. Dear Smile Queen, —Just a line or two to let you know I have not forgotten you. We have nearly finished our holidays now. During the first week I went to several different places to spend the day. One of the- places was Wanganui. The second week I went up to Taihaye and Mataroa which are on the Main Trunk Line. The day I went to Taihape there was a- derailment on the line near Mangaweka. I had quite a good time while 1 was away. When I was coming home 1 saw where the train smash was. The trucks were .piled up on top of each other. One truck was lying on its side and it had a hole in the bottom where a rail had gone through. Our fowls have started to lay again and we are getting thirteen or fourteen eggs a day. Aren’t the bulbs pretty now. Smile \Queen? We (have not got very many but the ones we have got are very pretty. When we had the inspectors examination before the holidays 1 passed into standard six. As it is getting late I will close now. With love from Thyrza. Aberley. (It .seems a long time since I heard from you Thyrza. You were a good correspondent last year and I hope you’ll write more often now that you have started again. You certainly had an interesting holiday. Love S.Q.).

Dear Smile Queen,—Once again I take up my pen to write you a, few lines. You asked the Smiles to tell you liow we spent our holidays. Well, I went to Tawhiti for a week. I went to town nearly every day and enjoyed myself very much. Sometimes 1 went to the cowshed and helped to milk. One night my uncle was sick, ,so I took his place in the shed. My two brothers and I went to a party on Friday. We played some splendid games and enjoyed ourselves. We had several competitions. How are you getting on at the Castle? Well as it is nearly dinner time I will close. From your loving Smile, Dora. Almost human intelligence of a Scotch collie clog possibly saved the life of Juan E. Duran, sheepman of Pinedale. Duran while out riding fell from his horse. The horse wandered away but the faithful animal canine remained f«r a time to stand sentinel over its master. Then the dog, alert to a sense of duty, went a fast pace towards Pinedale, two and a half miles distant. Presently, William Shantey, another sheepman, drove along. The clog approached and set up a dismal, moaning howl that attracted Shanley. The dog knew Shanley, hut would not get too close. However, his strange notions convinced Shanley that something was wrong. He alighted and the dog eagerly started into the sagebrush, looking hack at intervals to see .if he Was being followed. After walking half a mile. | the clog danced with, joy as he pointed to his owner lying on his back in the hot sun. Shanley procured aid and rushed the man to block Springs for attention.

(Yes, indeed, we iseem to be getting the real winter’s weather now. Fancy haring snow at this time of thei year. Love S.Q.)
