MAN’S SEVERE INJURIES
AWARDED £llOO DAMAGES

HAMILTON, Sept. 3
A claim for £1309 damages for personal injuries, the result of being knocked down by a motor lorry, was, brought dn the Supreme Court at Hamilton to-dav before Mr Justice Smith and a jury. The jury awarded £llO9 damages. 'Plaintiff was John Barry, a camp ganger, jVEafangi, and the defendants Butler and Carroll, transport contractors. The statement- of claim set out that on. yepar. ~en. on ae ..uiginri tion. The defendant company at the time was engaged in connection with the construction of another section of the road. Barry was walking along the road when he was knocked down by a. lorry driven by an employee of the company, John Matthew Young. Barry as a result was completely incapacitated for an indefinite period, had suffered the loss of 12 months’ wages, and had incurred medical expenses amounting to £ll4 18s. His injuries had consisted of two broken bones in the right leg, several broken ribs and a severely bruised baelc. The damages claimed included £IOOO general and £309 13s special. After a short retirement, the jury found for plantiff and awarded him £llO9 damages.
