PRTCE FIXATION ALLEGED. RAILWAY OFFICERS PROTEST. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. Aug. 26. The cost of living, insofar as price fixation is concerned, was considered at a special meeting of railway officers. It waisi alleged that a concerted movement was afoot in one particular trade, /'ostensibly for the purpose of fixing and retail prices. A resolution, as follows, was carried inianiimouisly: “This meeting of rail way officers views with a'i'ann the action of merchants and grocers in combining for the pup.'uses of fixing the .prices of foodstuffs, which action must inevitably rec-r.'ii to the grave disadvantage of the consumer. The meeting also regards .such an action ,in view of the serious financial position of the country as being taken at a time- when the public is quite unable to meet the slightest increase in the cost of living.”
