ATTEMPTED ARSON

PLANS TO BURN BUILDING DETERMINED EFFORT MADE. ROOMS SOAKED WITH PETROL. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright;. Received 2.30 p.m. to-day. SYDNEY, Aug. 25. Flans for a determined effort to burn a block of buildings in Bathurst Street were frustrated by the suspicions of a woman in a ground floor shop. She noticed two men leaving upstairs premises from which she knew the occupants were absent, and she informed the police, who discovered the rooms soaked with petrol. The electric wiring had been interfered with and a string led down to the street door ready for a pull to cause a fusino- of the wires, which would ignite the petrol fumes. The premises are now guarded.
