MINORITY GOVERNMENT
QUESTION FOR MB. WARD. INVERCARGILL, Aim. G. The following, question was' put to Mr Vincent Ward, the Government candidate- in the Invercargill by-election, at his address to* electors to-night:— ‘‘Are you i.n favour of a minority Government, admittedly on the rocks, placing, six ornaments in the Legislative Council, at a cost of £3OOO a year, which would be better spent on unemployment ;and are you aware one of these men was discharged from the House of Representatives?”
Mr Ward : We all know it is a minortv Government, and we do not need, to >3 told that it is. as the Reform Party A constantly doing. Ldo say, however, dint had the people at the la-st* election m-own the Unitc-d Party would! have neen a* minority, then I believe that all e*.v would Lava seen to it that we veie never a minority Government. Vacancies existed in the Legislative Council, and the Government was e.n;itled to put its nominees there. Mr Coatsei would have acred in a similar nnnner. Concerning the last part of the question. I do not know to whom .'o*u refer.”
