The Marine Department has received advice from the master of the Nelson ferry steamer Matangi stating that on last night’s trip from Velliugton, when four miles. W.S.W. of Sinclair Head, a heavy sea washed away portion of; the. ship’s railing and 11 oildrums were carried overboard. This is likely to be a danger to navigation. ' Roth’ the Remuera (from Southampton) and the Tahiti (from San Francisco) have arrived. The Tahiti was two days late and came in at 7 a.m., and the Remuera at 1 a.m., being also 48 hours late. They met increasing heavy weather as they approached the New Zealand coast and their speeds had to be reduced.
