STEAMERS DELAYED
HEAVY SEAS EXPERIENCED
TWO BOATS 48 HOURS LATE MATANGT’S ROUGH TRTP.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 30. The Marine Department has received advice from the master of the Nelson ferry steamer Matangi stating that on last night’s trip from Velliugton, when four miles. W.S.W. of Sinclair Head, a heavy sea washed away portion of; the. ship’s railing and 11 oildrums were carried overboard. This is likely to be a danger to navigation. ' Roth’ the Remuera (from Southampton) and the Tahiti (from San Francisco) have arrived. The Tahiti was two days late and came in at 7 a.m., and the Remuera at 1 a.m., being also 48 hours late. They met increasing heavy weather as they approached the New Zealand coast and their speeds had to be reduced.
