CHILDREN’S BALL AT OHANGAI. AIEREMEUEi QUOTA ATTAINED. Complete success hist night crowned the efforts of the Mereinere School Committee to raise its necessary quota in aid of the Hawera Dental Clinic, by means of a children’s “hard-up 77 and .fancy dress hall in the Ohangai Hall. A clear, fine night favoured tho function and the residents of both Meremere and Ohangai attended cu masse and the hail was packed l to its fullest capacity. Fancy costumes and decorations in coloured streamers and evergreens combined to impart an odour of gaiety and the children, fully imbued with the spirit of their surroundings., thoroughly enjoyed themselves lor about three hours r , when the floor space was given over to the adult portion of the assembly. Music for the dancing was gratuitously supplied by Mrs H. Haycock, of Waverley, and Air A. Williams (Meremere) ably carried out the duties of M.C. Supper Mas served by a committee of ladies comprising Mesdames G. IV. Williams, D. Gardner, Sangster, IV. Murray, and G. Foreman, who also in other directions' rendered much assistance to the Mereinere School Committee.

Competition dances by the children were won by Sylvia Duff and Allan Slater (Spot Waltz) and Gwenda Elmes and Bobby Hinga (Monte Carlo). Prizes for these were presented, to the winners’ by Air G. IV. Williams, chairman of the school com in it tec, who during the supper adjournment briefly returned thanks to all who had assisted in the successful issue. The quota required in aid of the dental clinic, he said, had been attained.

About 50 couples of adults then occupied the floor and dancing was continued to midnight. At, a meeting of the committee held on Thursday evening it was decided to definitely close the Hawera school lists on Thursday, 31st inst. It is therefore necessary that all those who have promised donations should hand them in to ejther a member of tho committee or the office of the “Star” before that date. The acknowledgment of further donations will appear in next Saturday’s issue of this paper.
