Last Tuesday there was a. very largie attendance in the lcoal hall to- a welcome home evening to Messrs Reg. Muggeridge, Charles and Fred Rye, vhp have recently joined the benedicts. Mr. Kilpatrick presided and the usual toasts were honoured, while Messrs. Davey, Christie, and Chapman rendered musical and elocutionary items. A Maori orchestra of five stringed instruments played good selections and a local native sang .songs in pakelia and in Maori language. On behalf of all present, Mr. Kilpatrick wished the guests ot the evening every happiness and all prosperity j in their new spheres of life. Each suitably replied. On Monday evening Mr. Andy Frevne was a similar guest of honour in the local hall. A very large attencD ance, presided over by Mr. Kilpatrick, again heiunt present. Musical and elocutionary items were rendered by Messrs. Davey,, T. Haworth, .1. O’Dsn, MacLennan, Christison and local Maori artistis. The usual toasts were honoured and speeches were given by Messrs. Kilpatrick, O’Den and T. . Ross, while a presentation was made to Mr. Freyne, as a small token of appreciation and esteem. The recipient suitably replied. On Wednesday night a meeting was held to finalise all arrangements in the social and dance on Friday night, when the switching-on of electric light in the Waimate West County w ill he celebrated in the manner befitting so important an occasion in Auroa. At 9 o’clock a full blaze of coloured lights will he turned on in ceremonious style, which at the same time will fully demonstrate the contrast he-, tween the new and the old methods of lighting our hall. Mr. J. B. Murdoch will carry out this part of the function. Mr. Buxton, chairman, and Mr. Wood, secretary, assisted by the South Taranaki Power Board, are doing much to make this occasion a memorable event in South Taranaki. The hall will be well decorated with greenery to show up the effect of the multi coloured lights. Dance music will be supplies by wireless and by a. 12valve set. while there will be electrical novelties of all kinds. The Pipe Band will play outside the hall in the early part of the evening. PERSONAL. Air. Y. Sheerin has been laid up for some time and is still going round on crutches.
