London society circles have been •stirred by a London “Gazette” auI nouneenient, that the presentation of Airs Christopher Courtney at their Alajesties’ Court on Alay 15 has been cancelled. Airs Courtney, whose husband is a Royal Air Force group captain and. Deputy-Director of Operations' and Intelligence at the Air Ministry, was presented by Lady Salmond, wife of Air Chief Marshal Sir John Salmond, Chief of the Air Staff. She says she was privately informed that the presentation was being cancelled. hut does not know the reason for it. Captain and Airs Courtney have gone to the country. There have been precedents in the last two reigns for the cancellation of a Court presentation after it lias actually taken place, hut it is very unusual and a rare occurrence. Before her marriage in 1926 Airs Courtuev was' Miss Constance Greensill. Group-Captain Christopher Llovd Courtney is the youngest son of the late Dr. AY. L. Courtuev. a well-known editor and publicist. He joined the Britannia at Dartmouth as a naval cadet in 1905. and was a lieutenant in the Navy. He joined the Royal Naval Ail- Service in 1912. and was squadroncommander in 1914. ' Tn the war lie was mentioned in despatches and was awarded the D.S.O. and the French Legion of Honour. From 1925 to 1929 Ihe was on the staff of the Royal Air ! Force Staff College at Andover. He [ married in 1926 Miss Constance Rav- / son Greensill.
