CONTROL OF KING’S COLLEGE
TRANSFER AGREED TO. rßv Tnl»igraph—Press A-sswiatioti.) AUCKLAND, June 18. The Board of Governors of King’s College to-night finally agreed upon the terms of the transference the college to the control of the Trust Board of St. John’s College, Tamaki. This is the result of negotiations extending over many months. • The transference has been made possible by the action of tlie St. John’s College Trust and General Synod and by the liberality of old hoys and friends of King’s College. The St. John’s College trustees obtained the permission of General Synod to apply accumulated funds to £15,000 for the purposes of King’s College. These funds arose from the sale of a property in Parnell which was formerly the site of the Church of England Grammar School, founded in 1854 and closed in 1893. This sum was not sufficient to enable the transfer to he effected. Accordingly an appeal for funds was made some months ago by friends of King’s College. This received a magnificent response, £20,000 being raised. It is not known when the _ legal transfer will take place. Tlie effect of the change is that King’s College is now to become an endowed church school under the direct control of the Church of England.
