BLAZE IN WELLINGTON. i Telegtaph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 27. Fire totally destroyed a grocery store with five dwelling rooms attached at 2 o’clock this morning. The premises, -which were insured for £450," were owned by Messrs L. and P. Kitcher, and occupied by V. J. Billington. The cause of the outbreak is- unknown. HOUSE PARTIALLY GUTTED. WELLINGTON, May 27. Fire broke out in a five-roomed house in King’s Bond. Lower Hutt, at 3.55 this morning. Mr S. Langridge and his wife and children just managed to escape in their night attire. Two of the rooms . were completely gutted arid the others were damaged. It is believed the cause of the outbreak was a defective chimney. The house was owned by Mr J. O’Brien. BLAZE AT THAMES. HOUSE RAZED TO GROUND. THAMES, May 28. Awakened by smoke and an explosion, Roy Willis had a narrow escape from being burned when a 10-roomed house on the outskirts of the town was burned to the ground at 3.35 o’clock iliis morning. Willis had been looking after the place during the owner’s absence, -but this was the first night he had slept in the place, which was .situated on a hill. The fire made a. most imposing spectacle. The- brigade were helpless, as there- are no water mains near the place, which was owned by Mr. S. R. Hislop, of Hiluitaia, and insured for £7OO.
