HAWERA HIGH SCHOOL
BOARD OF GOVERNORS.
MONTHLY MEETING. There were present at the monthly meeting of the Hawera High School Board last night Messrs R. S. Sage, T. G. Hobbs, L. A. Jennings, A. Brown, J. Gray, J. W. J. Harding, Dr. Thomson and Mrs Harding. The headmaster (Mr A. Gray) reported that the school resumed on Tuesday, the attendance being 270 — 138 boys and 132 girls, divided as follow : Literary 108, commercial 110, home '.science 22, agriculture 7, engineering 23. He added that the furnishing of the new building would lie completed in a day or two, and recommended the purchase of a new sewing machine. In regard to the library, lie stated that he would like more time before making a recommendation. “There are about 200 gums and pines,” he reported, “two-year-old trees grown by the agriculture boys at the hostel, and they are available for sale or for use.”
It was decided to purchase a new sewing machine, as recommended, and to offer the trees for -sale.
The grounds committee (Messrs Hobbs and Brown) reported that one of the front lawns had been topdressed. the other to be left until the spring. They asked that the children be kept off the lawns until thoroughly established. A resolution was carried that the matter of the playing area be left in the meantime, the grounds committee to report to the next meeting.
