SUCCESSFUL YEAR

EG MONT SHOW PRESIDENT’S REVIEW. The annual general meeting of the Egmont Agricultural and Pastoral Association drew an attendance of 30 bo the association rooms on Saturday. The president (Mr. W. McL’DowieV occupied the chair. The activities of the association during the year was reviewed briefly by the chairman. “The forty-sixth anuual show was a complete success,” said Mr MeL’Dowie. “The association was favoured with fine weather for its annual fixture and a particularly large crowd was present on People's Day. Hie exhibits numbered 1796 compared with 1766 in 1928 and 1645 in 1927. Many outstanding animals in all live stock classes were exhibited and the high standard of previous shows was fully maintained. The dairy section,.in particular, was a very fine exhibit and would be a credit in any show ring. The profit from the show was £424 19s' 4d, an increase of £123 16s 2d. Our thanksare due to the Hawera Borough Council and the Hawera Retailers’ Association for agreeing to observe the week.tr half-holiday on People’s Day. “The gymkhana, this year was marred by wet weather and the profit amounted to £33 19s Id, a decrease of £2O from the previous year. The incoming committee will have to go carefully into, the matter of arranging future programmes for these fixtures, as more variety is required to hold the interest of the public. Ouar thanks are due to the Hawera Pipe Band, the Hawera Amateur Athletic Club and the Motor Trade Association for valued-as-sistance on this occasion.

“From,a financial point of view the year has been one of the most successful that the association has experienced. As has been previously stated the -show returned a profit of £424 19s 4d while' increased revenue has been received from members suDserrptions, office rents and electric light sports. Unfortunately, owing to adverse market conditions, the farm account profit of £l6l last year has been replaced with a loss of £9 13s 7d. Interest aud salaries have both shown a reduction for the past year. Arrangements have been made with Mr. W. J. Arundel 1 to- renew his mortgage of £IO,OOO to the association for a term of ten. years at 6 per cent., thus effecting a saving of £IOO per annum in interest. ■ ■ - “In conclusion I wish to tender the thanks of the association to the ladies who undertook the control of the produce shed and the show catering, the judges and stewards, donors of . special prizes, the Technical High School pupils who assisted , at the show, the press and all who have assisted the association in any way during the past year. T would like to isipecially thank the ladies and gentlemen who- have kindly donated the sums lent on de posit to the association to tire associations’ funds. Their action has materially contributed to relieving the, financial position and the association is greatly indebted to them.” \ » The chairman formally moved the adoption of the report and halancesehet, details- of which have already been published. . Mr. O. H. Washer seconded the motion which was carried after a short discussion. ... . - UN-
