HOCKEY SEASON OPENING

HAWERA B TEAM DEFEATED. In the opening match of the hockey season in South Taranaki yesterday the Manaia team defeated Hawera B by five goals t« nil. The winners played remarkably good hockey for an opening game, the forwards especially playing well together. The defence was sound and the opposing forwards were seldom able to get as far as the circle. The Hawera team was somewhat disorganised owing to the absence of some regular players, and did well under the circumstances. The chief weakness lay in the forwards, several members of the usual front line being unable to play. For Manaia, B. Duncan (3), B. Hills and E. Bennett scored.
