The first of the 8400-ton class of cruiser, the York, has been commissioned and is joining the second cruiser squadron at Sc-apa Flow. The York was three years in building at Palmer’s works, Jarrow-on-Tyne, and has cost approximately £1,800,000. On her trials she showed a speed of 32i knots, developing 80,000 horsepower. The York is 575 feet in length, with a beam of 57 feet. She is fitted with six torpedo tubes, and has six Bin., four 4in. anti-aircraft, four tlireepounder. two two-pounder, four machine and eight light guns.
