AXEMEN’S CARNIVAL
CHAMPIONSHIPS AT MIDHIRST. SHEWEY WINS TITLES. From a field of 10 the noted axeman, J. E. Shewry, ex-world’s champion axeman, won the 12-inch chop at the Midhirst meeting yesterday, when, in addition to the New Zealand championships, the 12-inch Taranaki championship was also decided. His winning of both events in an easy manner showed that, despite his age, Shewry is still at the top of his form. Other well-known competitors gave excellent exhibitions, and from every aspect the carnival was outstandingly successful. Detailed results were as follow: CHOPPING EVENTS.
